Joy was born with Spina Bifida and after being adopted from China at the age of 6, she made her debut at the 2014 World Championships in Toronto at just 15 years old! From there she went on to represent Team GB at Rio 2016 in Wheelchair Basketball, before captaining the GB U25 Women’s team to a European Gold and World’s Bronze medal!
However, none of these achievements would have been possible if it wasn’t for Joy’s ability to overcome various language barriers, difficulties linked with moving countries and seclusion within secondary school P.E classes!
With her sights now firmly set on the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Joy is hoping to represent Great Britain once again. All of which will be documented on the Access Your Life blog, so stay tuned for frequent updates, photos and messages from Joy!
