I was provided with an SMOOV after receiving funding to help improve my well-being and everyday life. The SMOOV is an amazing item that has provided me with independence and helps alleviate and prevent symptoms, thereby improving my life. As someone with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, I often need to use a chair to alleviate symptoms, but I quickly learned that, unfortunately, that meant causing symptoms in other areas (shoulder pain and dislocations while self-propelling). The SMOOV allows me to be out in my chair and navigate the cobblestones and potholes in my local area, even if I have my dog Millie with me.

I can choose the speed – it is easily adjustable and safe to stop. Having the SMOOV means I am no longer stuck at home, can work longer, and socialise with my friends. My mental and physical health have improved since having it. I am in considerably less pain on a day-to-day basis, and my mood has improved. Now, I am less isolated. I am so grateful to have received funding for this and don’t know what I did before!
