Powered bike attachment that converts a manual wheelchair into a fully electric trike. Attaches using two lightweight clamps that remain permanently on the wheelchair.
I upgraded my Firefly bike to the Triride Madmax, mostly due to issues I experienced with the Firefly’s installation, where I either had to compromise on grip or stretch very far forward for my handlebars. Thankfully, the Triride offers a quicker attachment option, although it can be slightly fiddly to detach the bike from the attachment if the floor isn’t level.
Things I really like about the Triride:
– The assisted loading, which uses cruise control in reverse to lift the front wheels off the floor. Due to the batteries, the bike is too heavy to push up and lower the front wheels back onto the floor.
– Cruise control that maintains a constant speed, whether you are going uphill or downhill.
– Battery life. I managed 60km on a single charge.
– Power to handle hills and go off-road.
This particular Triride helps me get out more and tackle rougher terrains, making dog walking more fun as we can visit the forest. I haven’t tried it on the beach yet, but I imagine it would perform well on compacted sand, and not as well on the loose sand unless I get larger off-road rear wheels. It’s relatively heavy to get into the car, but since I can’t drive myself, this isn’t something I had to consider, as my partner can lift it into the boot without issues, even with the batteries installed. It has a larger, wider front wheel that makes the ride smoother and helps with grip.
