Black front wheel with a black frame that attaches to my manual wheelchair.
This is a single wheel that clips onto the front of my wheelchair, preventing the small front castors from catching on the floor. I previously had a standard FreeWheel but upgraded to the RGK version. This is because this wheel doesn’t lift your castors off the floor, regardless of the direction. This makes the ride even smoother and creates a smaller turning circle.
This attachment works well on bouncy terrains and normal pavements, as it prevents your wheelchair from getting caught on little pavement imperfections. When used with a rear powered attachment such as the Smartdrive or SMOOV One, I can move easily over (dry) grass. It is also supposed to work in snow, but I haven’t experienced this yet.
To attach the wheelchair, clamp two brackets onto the front of your wheelchair frame and attach the third bracket underneath the footrest. This causes the Freewheel to push down and lock into position. To remove it, simply lift the wheel and unclip it – it takes seconds! The two brackets need to stay attached to your wheelchair frame, as they are a little trickier to fit. However, they do not get in the way when you’re not using the RGK FrontWheel.
