Designed and created by the Charity MERU, these flexible gadget stands are ideal for securing and displaying phones, tablets, communication switches, cameras, and controls.
I repeatedly drop items and find it hard to retrieve them, especially when using my wheelchair. Since discovering Flexzi Gadget Stands at a disability exhibition, I’ve experienced a new level of independence.
The Flexzi is available in black, green, or pink—this single flexible plastic strand features a large Velcro-covered circle at the top and a clamp at the bottom. There are two types of clamps, both of which are easy to grip and can be removed within 30 seconds.
Eco Clamp – A lightweight, flat attachment that clips onto tables and beds using a cog-shaped handle that screws into place.
Heavy Duty Clamp – A rounded attachment designed for wheelchair and pushchair frames, with a handle that secures the clamp.
I chose a pink Flexzi 1 with an Eco Clamp because it suited my needs and lifestyle. However, I recommend exploring the double-stranded Flexzi 2 and triple-stranded Flexzi 3, which can be extended using a kit to add 15cm to the length.
Packaging & Delivery:
The Flexzi comes with instructions and is delivered in an eco-friendly mailing bag made from 100% recyclable materials.
Installation:
Attaching the Flexzi is straightforward, with clamps accommodating surfaces from 10mm to 32mm thick.
The velcro on top is strong and rough, making it difficult to peel off, while the other side is soft and flexible, adhering securely to devices with a peel-and-stick adhesive. Despite initial concerns, devices remain firmly attached without falling off. Additional Velcro circles can be purchased from MERU to connect multiple devices or odd-shaped objects, such as a GoPro, along with a camera mount compatible with standard tripod fittings.
Using the Item:
I mainly chose the eco-clamp to attach my phone to my bedside table, which is very helpful during hospital stays when I’m unable to lift my arms. I can also attach it to my wheelchair by wrapping a textured material, like Vet Wrap, around the frame to hold the attachment securely. This enables me to use my phone on the go without risking drops. The Heavy Duty Clamp fits rounded wheelchair frames well, but the Eco Clamp can be adapted to accommodate this.
Once attached, the Flexzi 1 is simple to position without needing fine motor skills, making it suitable for all ages and abilities. I usually keep it upright with the top tilted forward to view my screen, but I can also push it aside if necessary, such as during chair transfers.
Overall, I highly recommend this versatile, high-quality product. I’ve been using the one in the photo for over five years, and it was 100% worth the money.
