White scooter with four small wheels, a leather spinning seat, and a storage basket. It has adjustable handlebars, armrests, seat height, and width. Requires two batteries and a charger, offers a good range and speed. Very easy to operate using a hare/tortoise dial. Breaks down into four pieces.
This has most definitely changed my life! It’s the first mobility scooter I’ve owned myself, although I have hired many. It is a bit wobbly (especially the seat), and I struggle with sciatica if I sit in it for too long. However, in terms of practicality and efficiency, it’s excellent and quick to use.
It’s very nippy and definitely much lighter than others I’ve tried. It fits in the boot of my Vauxhall Viva (smaller than a Corsa), which is fab, although despite its ‘lightweight’ advert, my disabled self most definitely cannot lift it!
I would definitely recommend this for day trips to museums, shopping centres, cities, etc., as it can easily be taken on buses and trains. I I find that if you don’t drive it completely straight into a ramp, you nearly topple out, but this might be due to my driving as opposed to the chair itself. I am considering getting a different type of wheelchair or scooter for comfort, but I will keep using this one for short distances and days out in the meantime.
It’s also really helpful when I get fatigued, as the handlebars are adjustable and can be moved all the way forward. This allows someone to stand in front of the seat like a skateboard or sit on my lap and steer while I nap in the chair. I have very hypermobile hands and fingers and struggle with moving the mechanism to steer, reverse, etc. So, do keep this in mind if you have wrist joint problems or finger hypermobility. This might not be the safest option, but what I do is wrap a bit of string around it or my lanyard and the lever towards me with the string to save my fingers!
Every part of the scooter detaches, including the basket, which, although handy, is probably a bit small.
Regarding locking it up, I use a U-bike lock, which is a bit of a faff but I can’t see any other way to secure it. However, it comes with a spare key, which is amazing as I tend to lose everything!
