What Is A WAV:

Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) are converted commercial vehicles designed for passengers who travel in or drive directly from their wheelchairs.

They typically feature access ramps or lifts, a lowered floor, and wheelchair tie-downs. These features are enhanced by Lewis Reed’s own research and technological innovations, such as:

  • Sure-Fit 200® – A wheelchair tie-down and occupant restraint system designed for comfort and safety.
  • TorSpring® one-piece ramp – A lightweight, easy to operate, and rattle-free rear entry option.
  • Air Suspension Systems -A way to lower the rear ramp to a very low angle for heightened accessibility.

If you experience difficulty transferring from your wheelchair into a standard vehicle, a WAV could be an ideal solution. It provides easy access and, with more complex conversions, can even enable independent driving.

New Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles:

Lewis Reed offers a variety of new, luxurious Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) available for outright purchase, lease, or through the Motability Scheme. Available with petrol, diesel, and electric options, each is custom converted with various features to ensure comfort and safety. These features include lift or ramp systems with side or rear entry, as well as multiple seating configurations. Optional manufacturer features, such as an automatic entry system for the rear lift, upgraded electric side doors, and an automated tailgate, are also available.

Stock & Used Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles:

Lewis Reed offers new “stock” vehicles that are either ready for workshop modifications or already on order. These vehicles are pre-ordered in popular colours and specifications, which means shorter lead times, though customisation may be limited.

They also occasionally offer used “ex-demonstration” vehicles for private purchase and immediate delivery. These vehicles are typically high-specification and in excellent condition, though they may have slightly higher mileage.

Since these vehicles are in high demand and sell quickly, please check their online directory regularly for the latest availability.

Hiring Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles:

Lewis Reed offers flexible short- or medium-term hire services for wheelchair-accessible vehicles, providing comfort, style, and accessibility when you need it most. This service is ideal for short trips, special occasions, or trying a vehicle before leasing or purchasing. Additionally, a rental vehicle can help you stay mobile and independent if your own vehicle is off the road or you require accessible transportation during rehabilitation or illness.
