Wheelchair cosy with colourful waterproof patterned fabric on the outside and plain dark fleece on the underside, all of which attaches to the wheelchair with multiple elasticated straps.
I’m a big fan of BundleBean products, especially their wheelchair cosies in winter.
I use the adult size, but there’s also a child-friendly version. Both are available in various patterns and fit most wheelchairs. They’re made from a waterproof, windproof shell with a cosy fleece lining, keeping me and my wheelchair warm, dry, and comfortable in most weather conditions.
Besides the colourful patterns, what attracted me to the BundleBean cosy was its ease of use, particularly how straightforward it is to put on and take off without needing to leave your chair.
I find it easy to attach the cosy myself, even with limited dexterity. Although it has two strong poppers at the bottom for a narrow foot or footplate cover, I usually keep them connected for simplicity, so I don’t need help from my carer each time. I secure elasticated Velcro straps around my ankles, calves, just below my knees, and around my waist. These straps can also be attached directly to the wheelchair frame if preferred. All straps have contrasting colours for users with limited sight, making it easier for me and my carers to quickly put on the cosy by clearly identifying where to grab. While the straps provide a snug fit, if your wheelchair lacks leg rests, your lower legs may get cold at times. However, there’s plenty of space to add a thin blanket underneath, so it’s not a big issue. The cosy offers a comfortable fit that resists kicking or leg stretching, without being overly restrictive for sensory needs. It can also be folded down to access PEGs or medication, and is very portable—stored in a small pouch that can hang on wheelchair backs, handlebars, or bag clips. Unlike typical rain gear, you won’t struggle to pack the cosy back into its pouch.
In conclusion, I strongly recommend the BundleBean Cosy for wheelchair users of all ages, abilities, and sizes. They’re affordable, durable, and washable, making them a valuable investment in my opinion.
