Wheelchair Description:
Powerchair with tilt function
Source Of Wheelchair:
NHS provided
Diagnosis:
Muscular Dystrophy
Personal Opinion:
This is my first powerchair through the NHS. It has a tilt function which I didn’t think I’d use but it’s really helpful to use when going down ramps, especially my wheelchair accessible van ramp, so you feel safer and not like your tipping forward.
It is a high base and I ran into problems as I had a thick pressure reducing seat cushion originally but I couldn’t fit under a standard table due to how high the seat was. I had to try a few thinner cushions which means it’s not as comfortable but I can at least now fit under a table to eat (which is essential!).
The arms are quite heavy and as someone with muscle weakness, I can have days where I can hardly lift the arm up which has the controls on.
The arms are also very easy to damage and chunks came off of mine almost immediately. One little dink and the spongy arms crumble.
There are cushion pads behind the legs however we had to tighten these as they would spin easily and dug into my legs. The seatbelt also loosens itself very easily.
I feel safe in this chair and it’s a comfortable ride. I’ve used it off-road at Centre Parcs and it worked really well.
My main gripe with this chair is that when you press the down button to slow the speed, it loops round the 3 speeds so you have to look to check you don’t accidentally push it down to go slow, but it goes round to the fastest speed.
Overall it’s a good chair but just takes a few changes when you first get it so that it works how you want it to and fits the way you need it to.
