The Verdict

★★★★★

Black waterproof wheelchair parka for the legs that will also keep your cushion dry.

I was given the opportunity to try out a Long Raindek from Kinetic Balance in exchange for a review. I was immediately interested because this product kept my legs dry and warm in a stylish way. Since I have Dysautonomia, my Autonomic Nervous System doesn’t regulate properly, causing me to feel either too hot or freezing cold. I also experience severe muscle spasms in cold weather, so I’m always looking for ways to make winter outings easier. I decided to thoroughly test the Raindek over the winter before sharing my thoughts.

The first thing I noticed was that Kinetic Balance offers a range of sizes, styles, and colours, allowing you to select options that suit both your needs and preferences — a rarity in wheelchair clothing. I recommend following their sizing guide, as the products are designed to fit snugly. I’m 5’7″ with long legs, and the Long Medium Raindek fit both my wheelchair and me perfectly, keeping me warm, dry, and comfortable in most weather conditions.

It’s very easy to put on and remove without leaving my chair, and I find it simple to attach independently, even with limited dexterity. The cover features plastic side-release buckles around the ankles, knees, and waist for easy tightening or loosening. There’s also a zipper along the side, from ankles to behind the knees, with a small pull ring on each zip to make it easier to open—very helpful when my hands are frozen on a cold beach in January! The zippers on both sides ensure I can use my strongest side easily. It’s also simple for a carer to assist since the fastenings are all within reach. Finally, a gripped seam around the ankles prevents the cover from moving, and a toggled drawstring helps seal it around the waist.

While the design, shape, and features may seem modest, they genuinely make a significant difference. As a manual wheelchair user, I find it difficult to keep the backs of my legs warm, but the Raindek wraps around the lower legs without restricting movement, which is particularly beneficial for those with spasms or poor circulation. It has a large pocket on the lower section, which is very practical, and I can even fit a blanket underneath without losing the snug fit. The Long Raindek feels like a lightweight thermal duvet over my legs, making extra layers unnecessary most of the time. For convenience, it can be rolled up and secured with a buckle.

Overall, I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a waterproof, easy-to-use, versatile wheelchair cover that’s convenient to carry and machine washable. It costs more than some other wheelchair covers I’ve tried, but its high-quality design justifies the expense. Best of all, it’s compatible with most manual wheelchairs, powerchairs, and mobility scooters.
