Personal Opinion:
I was instantly intrigued once I discovered Kinetic Balance had a range of products designed to keep your legs warm and dry, without compromising on style. Mainly because I have difficulty regulating my temperature especially in chilly weather, so I am always looking for ways to make outings more manageable in the winter months without looking like I’m wrapped in a duvet.
Specification:
The first thing I noticed when ordering my Raindek was the wide range of sizes, styles and colours on offer, something you rarely see when buying wheelchair accessories. Although you must follow the sizing guide before purchasing, as the products are designed to create a snug fit.
Packaging & Delivery:
When buying online your product will be shipped using compostable mailing bags made of organic material. All Kinetic Balance products are also free of single-use plastic.
Installation:
Even with limited dexterity, I found the Raindek very easy to put on and take off as you don’t have to get out of your chair to do so. There are zips with ring pulls on both sides of the cover, which run from your ankles to the back of your knees; although you don’t have to operate both zips for the cosy to function, which is very handy for anyone like me who has a weaker side! Alternatively, it is super easy for a carer to step in as none of the fastenings is hard to reach!
There are a couple of strong plastic side release buckles that tighten or loosen the cover around your ankles, underneath your knees and around the waist; but you could very easily attach alternative fixings to the straps if needed. Finally, there is a gripped seam around your ankles to stop the cover from moving, along with a toggled drawstring to help seal the Raindek around your waist.
Using The Item:
The overall design, product shape and inclusive features honestly make SUCH a difference to my overall ease of use! As a manual wheelchair user, I often find it difficult to keep the backs of my legs warm, but the Raindek wraps around your lower legs without restricting movement, which is particularly important for anyone with muscle spasms and poor circulation. Although you could also fit a blanket underneath if needed, without compromising the snug design.
There is a large pocket on the lower part of the Raindek that is surprisingly super useful. Then for those days where you want to take it with you, simply roll it up and use one of the buckles to hold it together!
Conclusion:
I highly recommend this wheelchair accessory to anyone looking for a cover that is waterproof, easy to use, extremely versatile, convenient to transport and machine washable. It is more expensive than some of the other wheelchair covers I have tried, but I am yet to find anything that matches this high-quality design, making it a worthwhile purchase. Best of all, it can be used in conjunction with most manual wheelchairs, powerchairs and mobility scooters!
