Para Dance is a national charity and the governing body for Para Dance Sport in the UK. Not only do they encourage and support dancers to compete; they also strive to make inclusive dance sessions accessible to all, by providing leisure activities to those normally excluded from physical activities. In addition to this, Para Dance provides training for people wanting to teach inclusive dance and/or Para Dance Sports Classes.
The charity supports dancers competing in both regional and national competitions across the UK, along with highly competitive athletes who compete internationally. In order to source the best athletes, Para Dance is always looking for future competitors to join their Team GB Talent Programme, meaning anyone interested in being considered should get in touch via the links below!
Alternatively, if you fancy getting involved but don’t want to compete on a world stage - your local Para Dance group would be the ideal place to start. There are groups across the UK where members regularly meet to learn, stay active and enjoy dancing together. Whilst also building friendships and becoming part of an inclusive, non-judgmental community.
Although like many people living with disabilities, members of the Para Dance community are currently shielding against the coronavirus, leaving them isolated from family, friends, and the things they hold dear like dancing. Because of this, there has been an unspoken mental health crisis sweeping through households across the UK, whose impact is greater on the most vulnerable. Therefore, Para Dance UK has created a dance challenge aimed at uniting, uplifting and inspiring people everywhere, whilst also letting the world know that mental matters by dancing away isolation.
At AYL we are committed to sharing unbiased information on the best products and services for people with disabilities, so it is an honour to be partnering with Para Dance! Hi, I'm Lauren and I have been living with a collection of disabilities for the past 8 years. I initially had a passion for teaching children with special needs, but my health prevented me from pursuring my dream career. Despite this, I now love nothing more than sharing my experiences to help other people living with disabilities.
Hi, I’m Lori and was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and a family of co-morbid conditions which has made life highly complex. However I constantly aim to make life as ‘normal’ and fulfilling as possible - and through this, I discovered the benefits of writing about my journey.
