Personal Opinion:
After having no luck finding a suitable wheelchair from my local NHS Wheelchair Services, I contacted Sunrise Medical for advice. The next day someone got in touch to chat about my needs and decide whether their folding frames were right for me, before arranging for me to trial the Quickie Xenon at a local mobility equipment supplier called Alton Aids.

From there I  was able to order a made to measure frame, Matrix, Flo-Tech Lite seat cushion from Invacare and a standard Quickie backrest which was adjustable in height and angle. I have a swing-away stabiliser bar behind the backrest, providing my spine with a level of support typically achieved by using a rigid frame. It is also the perfect place to hang my BundleBean Buggy Clips and Organiser, both of which come in very handy when travelling and shopping. I also have one swing away anti-tip bar and one step tube on the back of my wheelchair, allowing my carer to safely tip my chair when going up or down a small step/curb.

After initially ordering standard Carbotecture Forks and 12 spoke Spinergy Wheels, I quickly swapped to Frogs Legs Suspension Forks and Loopwheels, which together allow me to comfortably sit in my wheelchair for prolonged periods, regardless of uneven surfaces. They have also greatly reduced the vibrations that naturally radiate through the frame, something I greatly appreciate when going over anything but a super smooth surface!

Weighing in at just under 11kg, the Quickie Xenon is easy to transport, lift and fold. On many occasions the quick-release wheels have enabled me to store my wheelchair in compact spaces, including the onboard wardrobe as opposed to the main hold of an aircraft! So I would highly recommend this wheelchair to someone with limited car space or regular travel commitments. It’s also great for people with ever changing needs, as you can easily change the height/angle of various parts with just an allen key – something I had to do in in the middle of Brooklyn Bridge when my foot plate popped off! You can even modify the chair by switching the backrest, seat cushions, footplates etc, as opposed to replacing the whole frame! Finally, there are SO many colour options, allowing you to have a wheelchair that meets both your physical needs AND personal preferences!
