Item Description:
The Alber E-Fix turns a manual frame into a powered chair which is controlled by a joystick on an armrest of your choice. The wheels look like your average pair of wheelchair wheels, the only difference being the tiny battery that sits just behind your legs.
Battery Life:
Lithium-Ion battery provides around 20 km. But I don’t know how long the actual life span is, although it’s been working perfectly for over a year for me!
Source of Item:
Whizz Kidz
Diagnosis:
Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS), Spinal Problems & More
Personal Opinion:
To attach these wheels simply press the big button in the middle of the wheel and pull them off like a standard manual wheel. Then the joystick just lifts vertically off and the battery just clips in and out. You can also swap between your manual and electric wheels without making any alterations.
It’s very lightweight compared to an electric chair and everything attaches to a rigid frame. It is great for someone who needs a power chair but wants to keep using a normal car rather than a WAV.
Really good to use around a town/city, although it cannot go up high curbs if your front wheels aren’t big enough. So if you want to go off-road or on bumpy uneven ground, then I advise using a Freewheel. However, it comes with anti-tippers, which can be helpful if you’re going up steep hills and they also have a jacking up feature, making it easier to take the wheels off without scratching your chair on the ground.
